Who are School Psychologists?
School psychologists are professionals with specialized training in psychology and education. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. School psychologists consult with educators, parents and other professionals as needed to insure that every child learns in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.
What do School Psychologists do?
School Psychologists are part of the Response to Intervention Team (RTI), the Section 504 Committee, and the Committee on Special Education (CSE). They are involved in assessment, consultation, intervention, prevention and education. School Psychologists provide direct support and interventions to students through counseling and evaluations. They consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors and school social workers) to improve support strategies. As necessary, they collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services for students.
