    When Mrs. Lazaroff our TAG coordinator, who retired June 2009, started teaching at the Middle School she realized that many or the majority of her average students weren't concerned about their future or had no idea of the different careers/jobs available out in the world for them. Some wanted to be doctors, nurses or lawyers and what about the rest of them. What jobs can they do? This is when she came up with the idea of inviting not just two or three parents but has many as she could convince to bring there job to our students in the form of a fair. Our first Career Day started in 1994 with a small number of participation, about 15 to 20 parents. It was the beginning of a special relationship between our community and our students at the middle school. Also it was a great experience and an eye-opener for our students helping them realize that the basic skills they are learning today will help them reach their goals and prepare them for their future role as working adults in our society.  Throughout the last 17 years it has become an activity that our students, parents and community members look forward to each year during the month of March. Many of the participants volunteer repeatedly, some of them have been with us over ten years. They find the experience fulfilling and rewarding.

    Background

    Our first Career Day started with approximately 20 parent participants in 1994.  It was a great experience for our Middle School students.  Currently the average number of participants has reached 80.  Get involved and become part of the educational team by sharing your work experiences -daily duties and educational requirements.     

    Career Development: Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes, and abilities to future career decisions.

    This experience is an eye-opener for our students.  Career Day is a day they start realizing that the basic skills they are learning today will help them to reach their goals and prepare for their future role as a working adult.

    Career Assessment Pamphlets - Students will participate in an assessment evaluation, which will help him or her to discover where their interests lie. Career Research and Reports. Students will participate in developing a Career Plan in the Career Zone site, besides attending Career Day.
